This past weekend I was able to finally get away with my daughter Faith for an overnight trip, just the two of us. It is something I have planned to do with my girls every two years from the age of eight. I stole the idea from a friend several years ago, and I’m so glad I did. It was our second time to do this, and we both have been looking forward to it for a long time. You can find our first Mommy and Me Day here. Faith ended up having to wait longer than two years since I had a nursing baby for a year that fell right at the wrong time for our outing.
Faith is a foodie. We get along really well in this respect! She loves cheese so I decided to take her to The Melting Pot Friday night. We waited for Daddy to come home, literally looking out the window anticipation was so high. I had made reservations, but traffic was horrible, and I am not an aggressive driver in traffic so the drive was kind of agonizing, but we only arrived there fifteen minutes late and didn’t have any problem getting a table.
I let Faith pick the fondue. She chose the Swiss cheese since that is the one I have most often made at home.
I have always been a little worried when my fondue has come out a stringy, but if The Melting Pot’s fondue comes out stringy too I must be doing okay. ๐ It was delicious! She did say she liked mine a little better though. Brownie points for her!
Next we had the fiesta cheese fondue. This one was served with chips as well as bread. It was fantastic. Faith said this was her favorite. I want to try to make this one!
For our dessert fondue Faith chose the Flaming Turtle, a chocolate fondue with caramel and pecans. She was a little scared when the server lit it on fire. I couldn’t get her to get near it!
At first we didn’t think we were going to be full with the two cheese fondues but by the time we finished the chocolate we were stuffed. The consistency of the chocolate fondue is a lot thinner than how I make it. Faith like it better. Me? It didn’t taste like chocolate to me, but more like a chocolate syrup, and I’m not really a chocolate syrup fan, so I like my simple chocolate fondue recipes better, but I might try making it a little thinner to see if my daughter likes it better. Still the Flaming Turtle was really good and super fun!
We had a wonderful evening eating, talking, and laughing. When we left The Melting Pot we headed to our hotel. More about our Mommy and Me Day in Part 2. ๐

What a fabulous idea ~ sounds like you two made some very precious memories that will last a lifetime on your “Mommy & Me” outing = )
That fondue looks absolutely delicious ~ my mouth is watering just from looking at the photos!!
That is a great idea to have Mommy & Me dates! Looks like she had a fun time and the fondue looks delicious ๐ Glad you girls had a good time.
It’s so important to spend quality time with your kids ๐
You made me really hungry, I bet the flaming turtle is good. Thank you for sharing! =)
How fun! I need to do this with my kids. I spend so much time being teacher, enforcer, fixer, etc. that I crave to just have fun with them. Good job!
How fun! I can’t wait to do these kinds of thing’s with my daughter. I believe it is SO IMPORTANT to have special mother/daughter time. I know when my Mom and I got to spend day’s together, it was wonderful. Some of my best memories!
P.S. I found you from the finding joy: Favorite Thing’s link-up.
Have a great weekend!
How fun! It’s so important to have those dates with our girls. And we love fondue!
She is adorable and must be around the age of my grand daughter Faith, who is in eight grade.
What fun evening away just to be girls and talk.
