The 7-Up Story

“He met her ‘accidentally’ in the winter of 1958.  She was a missionary’s daughter.  She was beautiful, and she had brains.  She went to college in the morning and worked in the public library of Birmingham, Alabama, in the afternoons.  He said it was love at first sight.  They loved to talk.  Their main talking place was restaurants.

“He still remembers one of their first conversations.  She told him that not too long before, her college classmates had invited her to go out to eat, but she didn’t have any money (they knew it).  So they said, ‘Come on with us anyway, and we will pick up the tab.’  So as they all got seated in the nice restaurant, the others ordered food, and she told them she wasn’t hungry, which was the truth, though I’m sure she could have eaten.  Then the waitress asked what she wanted to drink.  She finally agreed to order a 7-up.  Back then there were no refills.  So as she was sipping her 7-up, it was about half-full or half-empty (he didn’t know which) the waitress came by and filled her glass with water.  She didn’t finish it.”

That was my mother!   My dad wrote this for me about my mom.

They recently celebrated their 50th anniversary!
